This sign was the down payment for my first house and studio.
I was leasing the buildings with an option to buy when heavy snow caused the studio building to collapse as I stood on the roof frantically trying to shovel it free. I leapt to safety, but most of the art and tools in the building were utterly crushed. The collapse also severed the natural gas line which couldn’t be repaired until the ground thawed, so I spent the entire winter without heat or running water.
When the bank came to assess the damage, they were impressed enough by my work that they proposed commissioning a sign as the down payment on purchasing the remaining buildings.
