“Art is a way of knowing the world.” Lygia Pape helped found Brazil’s Neo-Concrete movement in the late 1950s, and her Ttéia installations string taut gold thread into standing shafts of light you walk among. For her, making a work was a way of investigating reality — art as a research instrument, inventing new languages to grasp what plain description misses.
