This piece began as an accident— I was buying the postcard and the plastic snake and liked the way they juxtaposed in my hand. I built the rest of the work around that happy accident. The steel with protruding nails came from a steamer trunk found in a dump. The crossed nails reference Nkisi sculptures, Ghede, and the Crossroads. The frame of steel is intentionally left broken to allow spirits to come and go.
